Knowing that we are going to be staying closer to home once the bambino arrives in July, we've been busy trying to do things we know we may have to put aside for a while... Disneyland, movies, ballet...
Today (in the rain) we were off to the SF Ballet again, this time with Little Mr. B. in tow. We sat patiently through two well executed, modern dance pieces, waiting for the The Concert (Or, the Perils of Everybody.) The dancers who, in the first 2 dance pieces, moved with elegance & precision were now crashing around clumsily, making comical errors, an occasional rude gesture, and generally looking a little confused. Little Mr. B.'s favorite moment was when a dainty, bespectacled ballerina parked herself on stage, front & center, then proceeded to scratch her bottom. If you click here, you can find a video-clip of a small section of The Concert. The tiny video hardly does the dancers justice, but you might sort of get the idea...
One of the best things about sitting at the front of the orchestra section (aside from the view of the stage) is that we like to chat with the musicians -- esp. the bass players since they sit just below our seats. During one of the intermissions I noticed a bass player taking a photo of the basses at rest. I asked him why and he explained that they joke about how, when a group of basses sit on their sides, it looks like a "pod of basses." I quickly snapped a photo of the pod of basses, too (before they all swam away!)
I hope you also had a lovely Sunday...
