My parents had a one-day stop over in SF on a cruise from LA to Vancouver (the ship they're on started in Florida, went through the Panama Canal and has sailed up the coast of Mexico -- they are catching the last leg of cruise). What a day to attempt a rendez-vous at the
Ferry Building! Between a baseball game at
ATT Park and the
Bay to Breakers Race, traffic was fierce. But a
Pink Moon CD in the car kept us happy, seeing people in costumes from the
Bay to Breakers made us happier, plus coffee from
Blue Bottle and all headaches vanish to the ether.
And my boys got to see their grandparents for a few hours today. Could I have asked for any more?
We also braved the city (gg park), not knowing about the race. I'm not sure how I missed that one. We ended up turning around and going home for ice cream. But I pointed out the giant cruise ship to the kids while crossing the bridge. Love me some Blue Bottle, too
ReplyDeleteAh, the joys and perils of living in the SF Bay Area... Hope you guys enjoyed the lovely views on the bridge (the weather was gorgeous!) and hope you enjoyed that icecream, too!

My kids wanted a public transit day on Sunday but I never ever try to get anywhere in the city on Bay to Breakers Day. When they asked why not, I said the buses will be full of sweaty stinky people, and my son replied, "We'll take our deodorant for them!" Interesting thought. We went to the playground instead.
ReplyDeleteWhat a good idea to bring some deodorant for other bus passengers! When I realized it was Bay to Breakers on Sunday I initially felt aggravated by the increased crowds & traffic, but seeing hoards of people parading around in running shoes & Marie Antoinette costumes, rainbow tutus, dressed as flamingos, chickens, hotdogs, etc... it was difficult not to smile and enjoy the infectious good cheer!
