Moomin-Love (and a give-away!)

A few weeks ago, I was scurrying through the foyer of my local library. As I went past the little 2nd-hand bookstore (located in the aforementioned foyer), my eye was caught by this book.  I quickly scooped it up, handed over my $2 and marched triumphantly out the library doors bearing my prize.  A beautiful Moomin picture-book? For $2!
(Moomins?  Do you not know about Moomins?  If you do not know about Moomins, I will make an introduction.  Dear friend, please meet the Finn Family Moomintroll.  Finn Family Moomintroll, please meet my friend.  Now that formal introductions have been made, we can continue...)

In my childhood, I read about Moomins in novel-format, but recently, Moomin picture books have been printed (or reprinted...)

This particular picture book is gorgeous -- the illustrations even have peek-a-boo cut-outs into the pages beyond.  The thing was, though... We already had a copy of this book on our shelf at home.  When I bought the book, I thought, perhaps, this was the second in a series of cut-out crafted story books. But alas, no.  It was exactly the same book as the one we had at home. It had been, perhaps, a year since we'd last pulled our copy down to read it, so my memory of it was a bit hazy, and this, dear readers, is where you benefit!  I thought and thought about to whom I would like to give this book.  The answer I came up with was... you!  But, before I give the details of the give-away, I must point you to this lovely Moomin website.  It's a delightful place to explore. I especially loved the stop-motion animation clip from a Moomin movie made in the early 80's (to find the clip, go to "Moomins" on the menu bar across the top, then click on "Films and Music.")

And, now for the give-away: To enter please leave a comment below this post (and be sure I have a way to contact you, should you be the winner.) That's all...  Good luck!

  3. You know, other than the casual mentions of Moomin on other blogs, I've never really know what it was. Guess I'll have to hit up our library this weekend and see if they have that book.

  18. Hello Peggy
Oh how delightful. Wish we had a similar bookswap nearby. We'd love a Moonin to go with 'Who will comfort Toffle? by Tove as well. Toffle was sent to Huon (by Ross's Swedish surrogate Professor when he was a Grad./PhD student) when Huon looked like being a single child. Must get the photo's to you. Will email separately.
Oh yes, don't forget stewed apple and icecream; apple leather; apple slinkies dried for hiking or fresh for the neighbourhood kids. Apple vinegar?
    warm wishes Clare xxx
